How many hairdressing businesses are there in and around your town? Do you know how their Google reviews compare to yours? Is your salon one of the first to come up when people search for a new hairdresser in your area?

I’m guessing you answered; a fair few, no, and, hopefully, yes!

If you have lots of great Google reviews for your salon and business, then you’re more likely to beat the local competition to the top search-result spot and win over those people looking for a new hairdresser.

Think about it, if you were in their position who would you call first? The company sat three pages down in the search results with no Google reviews, or the first company on the first page with the five star ratings?

Whether we’re booking a hotel, buying a phone or choosing a hairdresser, the majority of us will look at the reviews to help us pick out the best one every time. So having a Google My Business page for your company, and finding a way to get your customers to review you, is a really smart thing to do for your salon business.

Google My Business is a free tool, a free but powerful tool, that lets you control how your business appears on Google searches and maps, and most importantly, lets you monitor and respond to client reviews of your business.

Why is Google My Business so powerful? By the time a person is searching Google for a specific type of business in their area, they are usually ready to buy from or visit that service.

By proving your worth through honest customer reviews, you’re then able to capture more of those ‘ready to go’ prospective clients that have stumbled across you in their search, as they can trust they’ll be in safe hands with you and your floods of five star testimonials.

But how do we get those five star reviews? Relying on customers to rate your business on Google without much encouragement from you is not going to get you very far. When was the last time you reviewed something on Google without being asked to?

Don’t be afraid to ask your clients to help you out. If they love you, they’ll gladly want to help you spread the word of how great your salon is and the amazing work you do with their hair. Make it easy and send them a link that gets them quickly to where they need to be so it’s as hassle free as possible.

How to create a Google My Business review link for customers

Create a link from Google Search

To create a link from Google Search:

1. On your computer, search for your business on Google.
2. Find your business listing and click Write a review.
3. Copy and paste the URL that you see in your address bar.

Create a link using the PlaceID Lookup Tool

To create a link using the PlaceID Lookup Tool:

1. Use thePlaceID Lookup Tool (link – https://support.google.com/business/answer/7035772?hl=en-GB ).
2. Enter your business name in the ‘Enter a location’ field at the top of the map.
3. Click your business name in the list that appears.
4. Copy your Place ID, which you’ll see beneath your business name.
5. Add your Place ID to the following URL (after the ‘=’ symbol) to create your link: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=INSERT YOUR UNIQUE ID HERE

I did this recently, sending an email to my clients asking for their testimonials, and got an extra 50 five star reviews in one day! Every single review helps to build my business’s Google presence, all with the aim of attracting and securing new clients without spending a penny!

We ask all our new guests to the salon how they heard about us and record the information into our POS system. Google and our reviews provides a high percentage of new guests and turnover. The other benefit of this exercise is that i was very proud of my team and the excellent reviews clients were writing about them and they were motivated at the response they were getting.
